When I think about it, lipids may indeed play important role in virus infection. SARS-CoV-2 is an enveloped virus so it has a lipid layer that fuses with the cell membrane of mammalian cells (which are also fat-based). And I've also come across many research reviews emphasizing on the potential of statins as a therapeutic for Covid-19.

Your point about the virus altering the host lipid profile to establish persistence is very interesting, which is something I should keep in mind. Thank you for this and also your comment on the updated receptors for SARS-CoV-2. :))
