Some of the current vaccines are no longer effective against the SARS-CoV-2 variants, particularly the B.1.351 (South Africa) one. So, there’s a reason to be cautious and be prepared that the same might happen with future vaccines. I think a similar situation will probably happen — that some vaccine boosters will work wonderfully and some will not against the current or future SARS-CoV-2 variants.
