SARS-CoV-2 mutations are indeed clever but I imagine that it's similar for other viruses (or even bacteria). HIV is one scary example.

I recall that Omicron has over 10 individual mutations that are disadvantageous on their own. But put them together, they form a formidable function in evading human resistance.
