Regarding whether the virus will weaken, I'm not quite sure as I have not seen any research showing that one strain is less deadlier than the other. Three cohort studies (discussed in the main article) have found no significant differences in the death rates between G614 and D614. So at least for now, SARS-CoV-2 has not weaken.
