I think it's 2-3% of the mRNA ends up in the blood, not the translated spikes. Cosentino and Marino seem to extrapolate the clearance rate-protein size formula from this paper to the molecular weight of S1.

But I have to admit I did not verify their calculation since it's mainly theoretical and what matters is the amount of circulating spikes that were found.
