Hmm, I appreciate your comment and I must admit I haven't dived deep into the literature on prions and AD yet.

From what I understand though, protein folding problems are involved in other diseases as well. So the main idea I try to convey is why the protein folding or neurodegeneration problem occurs specifically in the hippocampus that leads to AD specifically. And I think HSV-1 tropism can, at least partially, explain this.

Of course, prions and other impurities leaking into the brain could possibly be contributing factors as well, although I must admit I'm not well-informed enough to comment on them yet.
