"For the whole to be more than the sum of the parts, the parts have to develop independently to be great, then they have to learn to work together." This is elegantly expressed! It's like how the amygdala, FFA, ACC, and DLPFC have to each function properly and then coordinate to amalgamate instinctive feelings and appropriate behavior.

And, indeed, dogma is a akin to "neurons that wire together fire together." Wire the wrong parts and

self-loathing can happen. Probably the DLPFC can no longer quell the amygdala that is directing negative emotion at oneself.
