A combination of genetic and environmental factors can make one’s immune system more prone to herpes reactivation.

If its genetic component, nobody knows if the immune system would react the same to COVID-19 as to herpes, which I highly doubt so considering they’re different families of viruses.

If its environmental component, then perhaps so as a poor diet, for example, can suppress the immune system leading to poor control of COVID-19.
